Job Description

On Your Bike is currently recruiting an experienced bike mechanic for our Taunton train station store. 

Introduction

On Your Bike is a charity run bike shop that trains unemployed or disadvantaged people as bike mechanics and helps them get back into work. We also operate as a standard bike shop offering bike sales and servicing. We have a great opportunity for an experienced bike mechanic who wants to be more than just a mechanic.

You will be involved with:
Handling bike sales and servicing
Teaching trainees how to be a bike mechanic and monitoring their progress
Working with the manager to come up with ideas to help the unit grow and implementing them

The ideal candidate will:
Be enthusiastic and energised with great customer care. Cytech level 2 or equivilant.
Have a good level of experience working as a bike mechanic. Be able to work independently. Be hands on and have an interest in not only being a bike mechanic but mentoring trainees and helping a business grow. Be flexible and looking for a challenge. Have a nationally recognised qualification in bike mechanics. Happy to use our IT systems as required. 

Skills/Experience Required

Servicing:
Servicing Bikes - Assess work required on service bikes, estimate costs, agree go ahead with customer, booking in jobs, completing work as agreed.
Mobile Servicing/Events - Support mobile servicing contracts as required by the manager.
Complete all paperwork required to ensure that job card records are consistent and reflect work completed.
Make necessary phone calls to maintain good communication with customers and suppliers.
Maintain a tidy and organised work space at all times.
Order parts and tools as required by the day to day operations.

Training:
Teaching trainees to be bike mechanics - Support, mentor and teach trainees as required by their individual needs.
Helping trainees repair 2nd hand bikes - Assess work required on donated 2nd hand bikes, estimate repair costs, assist trainees repairing bikes.
Monitoring trainee progress - Tracking the progress of trainees and reporting back to the manager.

Bike Sales:
Greet customers and help them find a bike to meet their needs.
Handle payments/refunds and carry out cashing up duties at the end of each working day.

General:
Keep all work areas well organised, clean & tidy. Look after tools & equipment and keep in their places.

Ensure good health & safety practices are adhered to for all staff, volunteers, trainees, customers and contractors. Follow the code of practice for working with children and vulnerable adults.
Carry out other duties from time to time as may be required by the organisation.
