Independent record shops in for a chance to be named Best Small Shop 2019

Posted on in Business News

There is not long to wait now with less than 2 weeks to go until the Best Small Shop in the UK for 2019 is announced at the reception in the House of Commons!

Over the last couple of weeks we have been introducing you to the fantastic shops that have been shortlisted and telling you about the wonderful ways in which they continuously help their communities and why they stood out to the judges.

This year two independent record shops are in the running to be named Britain's Best Small Shop of 2019! Both Jumbo Records and Winyl bring life to the music industry through their passion for records and live events.

Jumbo Records

Jumbo Records are proudly independent record shop in the heart of Leeds' city centre, which opened in 1971. The shop sells vinyl and CDs across most musical genres and encourages local musicians to bring their homemade CDs and records for them to sell.

The shop hosts occasional live music and miniature cinema events and has a long history of collaborations with other local businesses such as breweries, designers, artists, other shops, music venues and the Leeds International Film Festival. Jumbo Records also make an effort to track down items their customers want that they do not stock.

Winyl

Winyl is an independent wine and record store, based in Manningtree. They specialise in new release, re-issues, unusual, rare and vintage vinyl, and encourage customers to come and discover, and listen to, on their Audio Technica instore listening deck.

Winyl also stocks a wide range of wine, beer and juice. The wine is mostly organic and vegan and is served by the glass or bottle to drink in their cosy store or take away. The shop hosts regular free events from wine tasting evenings, free live music, a songwriting circle and a "singles" club.

For more information about Jumbo Records and Winyl you can visit their pages in the Indie Retail Shop directory. Keep up to date with the Best Small Shops competition by following our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages.
