Visual search on mobile devices rising

Posted on

mobile online shopping

Marks & Spencer (M&S) has been the latest high street retailer to join the small but growing group of retailers offering visual search as a service and a new way for consumers to shop on mobile devices.

M&S Style Finder, a photo search feature, sits on the M&S mobile website and enables consumers to "seamlessly discover a desired look with just a couple of taps".

This move M&S made is in the right direction for M&S as, 75% of all M&S's online visits are coming from mobile and tablet devices. Style Finder therefore offers a new and enhanced shopping experience for those consumers sitting within the mobile retail market.

Asos, Amazon, eBay and H&M also offer visual search functions on their apps or mobile websites according to Internet Retailing.

Retailers are now discussing digital transformations as part of wider long-term marketing strategies to enhance the customer experience. Whether this is the right direction to move towards, we don't know.

What we do know is that it's becoming more and more prevailing that certain tactics and models of design work for hubs within the retailer market and not for others.

The real insight that we can take away from all the shifts and changes to the retailer market and business models is that the consumer is getting more and more recognised.
