Tackling violent crime against retailers

The Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) stands behind the commitments of Victoria Atkins, Home Office Minister MP, who is urging the Government to look into violent crime against retailers.
Atkins, is promoting the Government to include confronting retailer crime in the already ongoing work to prevent violent crime.
A meeting on the 7th of February will focus exclusively on the violence and abuses towards retailers.
The ACS is calling for all Police and Crime Commissioners to agree to ensure that the police force takes abuse and theft to retailers seriously, responding to all reports of violence.
James Lowman, ACS chief executive, said:
"We welcome the Minister's recognition of violence against shopworkers as a serious issue that affects thousands of people on a regular basis. Tackling violence against shopworkers on the front line enforcing the law must be a key priority for all authorities, all the way from central Government through to Police and Crime Commissioners and local beat police, and this must include targeted action to deal with shop theft, which is one of the most common triggers of abuse along with challenging attempted underage sales."
