We are the New Forest's first and only Zero Waste plastic free groceries & coffee shop where you can bring your own containers to refill with all your kitchen pantry items, household cleaning products, personal care items, toiletries and more and also a coffee shop serving locally made produce, loose leaf teas, coffee, hot chocolate and cordials, soups, bakes and savoury treats with no single use in any of our supply chain. We have lots of vegan and gluten free options too alongside our local produce.
We also offer party kit hire, workshop space and classes, litter pick and community events and are HQ for Plastic Free New Milton through the national Plastic Free Towns initiative. We have even hosted Nellie the Final Fat Fish outside the store to raise awareness of recycling.

We strive to support local produce wherever possible and have had an absolute ball making connections with other local retailers and are now planning a local produce and business festival for our town in association with our town council to celebrate all the people who stepped up to help the community during this time of crisis.

Best Small Shops Competition - shortlisted

What makes you the UK's Best Small Shop

We opened The Naked Pantry in September 2018 to meet the demand for plastic free shopping in The New Forest National Park area. It was well received from the start and we looked at how we could integrate further with the community
Since opening, we signed up to be community leaders for the Plastic Free New Milton initiative, have become a public collection point for the TerraCycle UK recycling schemes, raising money for our local hospice, set up a website with both local delivery and click and collect options and now offer a small refill station set up service in other stores
We decided to open up a coffee shop next door in January 2020 where we can support other small local businesses by serving local produce and drinks, offer space for community workshops and classes and also run regular events for the community such as curry nights, charity quiz events, meetings and games nights.

What innovations did you initiate to combat the impact of COVID-19

Developed a webshop to provide a click and collect and home delivery service
Joined the local Covid Support Groups on Social Media
Enlisted other local businesses to join with us on our website to offer a full grocery offering
Asked for community help and were granted 2 x National Park rangers to assist with deliveries
Offered a full take away menu from our coffee shop
Offered half price food and drink to key workers
Rearranged the shop floor & shifts to allow safe social distancing of staff
Eased out of lockdown with a serve at the door service and built an outside patio area for outside seating for the coffee shop
We will be:
Continuing our online services & deliveries
Assisting with starting a local producers market

Tell us how you engage with the local community

By sourcing local products and produce wherever possible we are not only reducing our carbon footprint but also supporting a number of local small businesses. We are slso members of the New Forest Marque community.
Being able to offer home delivery and click and collect through our website and Facebook page we are able to meet our customers needs for those in outlying areas or with busy lives. Being able to shop with no single use plastics is something our community wants and we are able to make that accessible for all
We are community leaders for the Plastic Free Towns initiative which includes involving local businesses, schools, groups and organisations in the town's plan for change as well as giving talks, running workshops and events in the community.
By opening our coffee shop we also now have space available to offer in house space for events and groups & to be part of the community
