Best Small Shops competition 2020

What makes you the UK's Best Small Shop

We offer a huge range of unique greetings cards and gifty bits sourced by local designer-makers and UK based suppliers. Our products are targeted at an adult audience with a fun, edgy sense of humour. Although our main focus is to make our customers laugh, smile and enjoy themselves, we do have a selection of beautiful artistic cards and cards for kids birthdays too!

Our customers always compliment our shop, saying it's their favourite or reviewing us on google.

We have a healthy following on facebook and Insta, where our customers can stay up to date with new stock and latest offers. We also have loyalty cards that customer use to gain extra discounts.

Many of our cards are switching to plastic free packaging and we recycle all of our waste. We sell online at www.cardshack.co.uk and customers can choose to have their card hand written at no extra cost. We provide same day dispatch by 2pm.

What innovations did you initiate to combat the impact of COVID-19

During lockdown we moved our shop online, creating a brand new website www.cardshack.co.uk. We offer a hand writing service at no extra cost. Same day dispatch and free delivery when spending £20. I had to build the website myself using WIX and i brought all of the cards home and my kitchen was now a stock room. Customers raved about the service as many big card shops had completely sold out and had supplier issues with getting more stock.

I strictly followed the Covid guidelines to safely re-open on June 15th and we are open our usual working hours 7 days a week. We have invested in a bigger ecommerce website to make selling online easier for us and the customers.

We are stocking a large range of social distancing related greetings cards that have been a huge hit and also keeping the product topical to continue making our customers laugh! These are being shared on socials and available online.

Tell us how you engage with the local community

At Card Shack we buy in greetings cards and gifts made by local makers, specifically from Bristol and surrounding areas. We post on socials every day, complimenting the designer and dropping them a mention. We keep our stock up to date and topical to provide the best customer experience. Since re-opening we have ran promotions for customers to get free delivery online or % off in the shop. We keep our window full, clean and up to date to catch passing footfall. We are now preparing to take part in the national "Thinking of you week" and will be advertising the event online. We have taken part in local competitions and donated prizes to be won to entice customers to come into the shops. We have participated in interviews with Bristol Live, 365 Bristol and the express to give our story of closing and re opening to bring back shoppers in to the town center.
