Soak Southwell is a provider of high quality, handmade, vegan friendly, plastic free bathing products.

We offer a wide variety of goods including soap, bath bombs, our ever-popular mini bath bombs, solid shampoo bars, solid body lotion bars, solid exfoliating scrub bars and much, much more.

Our aim is to provide customers with a sustainable alternative to highly packaged shower gels, shampoos and perfumes, so the vast majority of our products are sold 'naked', or unwrapped.

You don’t have to be vegan or a plastic-free warrior to enjoy our products, as we strongly believe in the importance of quality, variety and affordability. This is why we work hard to source the right products and suppliers to bring you a diverse range of enticing 'naked' bathing goodies.

We opened the doors to our vibrant and colourful shop, situated in the thriving Minster town of Southwell, close to Nottingham in 2019.

We pride ourselves on offering everyone a warm welcome and personal service at Soak Southwell, be that in person or online.

Best Small Shops Competition - shortlisted

What makes you the UK's Best Small Shop

Soak opened it's doors in Nov 2019. We are a vibrant and colourful bath and body shop situated in the heart of the Minster town of Southwell.

Our principle aim is to provide customers with a sustainable, eco-friendly and affordable alternative to the highly packaged shower gels and shampoos sold by large retailers.

We offer a variety of products including soap, bath bombs, solid shampoo bars, solid lotion bars and much more.

All our products are handmade in the UK, vegan friendly and mostly sold 'naked'. We do not sell any items packaged in plastic

We successfully maintain our strong product ethos, without compromising on quality or vibrancy of our products. This, combined with a personal approach to customer service, has allowed us to build a diverse, loyal customer base with 200+ active members of our soap rewards scheme and makes us a strong contender for the UK's best small shop.

What innovations did you initiate to combat the impact of COVID-19

The enforced COVID19 shop closure happened only 5 months after we first opened our doors. However, it provided us with the perfect opportunity to focus on developing an online presence. 3 weeks into lockdown we successfully launched our self-built website - links provided.

Simultaneously, we introduced a next day delivery service for local customers - like Amazon but more fragrant! This proved to be an extremely successfully strategy with over 200 orders fulfilled during lockdown.

All social media activity was maintained throughout the lockdown to ensure an ongoing customer dialogue and we continued updating our creative window displays, with our VE shop window display being the most notable and generating much positive feedback (image provided).

On reopening, our product displays have been adapted to include paper wrapped items to help limit the handling of products.

Tell us how you engage with the local community

Soak prioritise supporting the local community in various ways.

Many of our customers organise charitable events to which we regularly donate raffle prizes. During the recent pandemic we donated large quantities of soap to our local foodbank and to a charity helping female refugees.

We also provide soap, free of charge, to a local holiday cottage for inclusion in their guest welcome packs.

We support two local ceramic artists by stocking their handmade soap dishes and earlier this year, we became the first UK stockists of a refillable shower gel, produced by local duo Milly & Sissy.

We have featured in the local newspaper and have been invited onto BBC Radio Nottingham on two separate occasions, to discuss single-use plastic reduction.

We have become a regular feature at a local comedy show and we often welcome customers who heard about us via a stand-up comedy routine!
