We ideally need someone to start ASAP for an initial 3-month period with the possibility of going permanent. Our company offers flexible work patterns and we will consider part-time and full-time applicants.

Company Description

We are an independent, community-owned cycle showroom based in York, with customers nationwide. We offer all kinds of bikes, trikes, adaptions, and accessories for anyone wanting to get into cycling: for people with disabilities or support needs, families and friends, individuals, groups, students, and workplaces.

Get Cycling CIC is a not-for-profit community interest company. A CIC exists for the benefit of the community and our mission at Get Cycling CIC is to ensure that anyone who wants to cycle, has the opportunity to do so.

Our Cycle Mechanics are responsible for implementing the organisation’s service delivery efforts to help achieve our immediate and long-term business goals. You will work closely with all colleagues to deliver efficient workflow activities to support the business’s growth plans.

  • Take a lead on workshop productivity and manage a highly fluctuating and varied workload.
  • Take part in daily meetings with all mechanics to prioritise service, repairs, builds, and stock maintenance.
  • Work as a team to diagnose and solve complex cycle issues.
  • Research and resolve customer cycle issues.
  • Perform pre-delivery inspections on customer’s new cycles.
  • Ensure a high level of quality control on all cycles going through the workshop.
  • Feedback on cycle quality, supplier, and work order lead-times.
  • Have excellent product knowledge to provide an outstanding customer experience.
  • Assist with customer’s initial needs assessments and demonstrations if needed.
  • Provide advice on a wide range of made-to-order and custom cycle options and adaptions.
  • Deal appropriately with customers with a range of needs and communication skills.
  • Listen to what customers want, work within their budget, and provide customers with detailed reports following services and repairs.
  • Assist with fleet maintenance and group hires for community groups, local businesses, and public sector customers.

Skills/Experience Required

Skills & Experience

You will have an excellent grasp of cycle technology and a problem-solving approach, thinking proactively when it comes to customer needs and solutions. You will also need:

  • Extensive experience working as a cycle mechanic (however, knowledge in disability cycling is not required as full training will be provided).
  • Ability to take on board a lot of very specialised product knowledge.
  • Experience repairing e-cycles with motor diagnostics and removal, and knowledge of Shimano Steps systems would be beneficial.
  • A proven track record of delivering high-quality service.
  • Good communication skills, patient, calm, kind, and friendly.
  • Desire to go the extra mile, be responsive to customer’s circumstances, and adapt quickly to the varied customer dynamic.
  • A minimum of three years experience working as a cycle mechanic.
  • Cytech Level 2 (or higher) qualification or equivalent.

You must have a passion for cycling and want to help others get cycling.
