Local Bike Shop Day 2022 set to take place April 30th with increased support and ambitious targets

Posted on in Business News, Cycles News

Local Local Bike Shop Day logoBike Shop Day, the industry-wide initiative managed by the Association of Cycle Traders, will be returning on Saturday 30th April to once again celebrate bike shops across the nation!

Following a survey that was open to the entire industry, the most popular date chosen was Saturday 30th April, with the most common reason given being that Saturdays generally have the highest footfall. As this new date falls on a Bank Holiday weekend, it provides the perfect opportunity for customers to give their newly purchased bikes and accessories a spin over the long-weekend.

A key objective for this year involves targeting people that are new to the industry and encouraging them to visit their friendly local bike shop. Bike shops that sign-up will once again be given an array of free marketing materials to promote the day, as well as being encouraged to host an "Ask us anything" session where customers can find a welcoming and encouraging environment, the goal is then to facilitate making them a regular customer.

Last year's Local Bike Shop Day was a great success, with all posts mentioning Local Bike Shop Day having over 300,000 impressions/views. The day was celebrated by 370 bike shops across the UK, an increase of 37% from the previous year, with IBDs offering their customers discounted products, free bike services and guided bike rides.

Jonathan Harrison, Director at the ACT said:

"This year the ACT have ambitious targets to achieve a higher consumer reach than ever before, as well as significantly increasing the number of bike shops taking part across the UK. Through working together the cycling industry can all very much benefit from Local Bike Shop Day by driving more customers into stores, as well as spreading the word of the many other benefits that cycling has to offer to the general public."

A key supporter for this year's event is #BikeIsBest, who will use their impressive consumer-facing social media reach and array of partners to play a key role in spreading the word far and wide and encouraging as many customers as possible to celebrate the day.

Adam Tranter, #BikeisBest Founder, said:

"#BikeIsBest has a mission to get more people riding bikes, more often - Local Bike Shop Day offers a great opportunity to bring new and returning cyclists in store, with a view to them becoming regular customers. Our research shows that often this audience can find the bike retail environment daunting. We are delighted to be supporting ACT on this fantastic initiative to showcase all the great retailers across the UK - who can support and advise these customers on cycling more regularly.''

Cyclescheme will also once again be supporting the day for the third year running through sponsoring competitions and funding promotional materials for bike shops to use in-store.

Neil McGuigan, Sr. Manager, Product Implementation at Cyclescheme, said:

"The local bike shop has always been at the heart of everything we do at Cyclescheme, as it's where our business originated 17 years ago. It seems only right and a natural next step that we continue our support of the Cycle network and the local bike shop for the third consecutive year. I would certainly encourage any store to get involved and sign up to make this year the best yet!"

Bike shops are encouraged to sign-up for Local Bike Shop Day 2022 as soon as possible by filling out the form here. All participating bike shops will receive a free pack in the post funded by Cyclescheme, which will include a poster, door stickers and flyers.
