Australia seek Cytech qualified workers

Cytech, the training and accreditation scheme for bicycle technicians, delivers technical training to the cycle trade and enthusiasts and is recognised internationally as THE cycle maintenance qualification of choice.

Recently, ACT reported that Cytech has expanded internationally and now offers the same dedicated training and accreditation that's available in the UK, in South Africa via Torq Zone Academy.

Since this news was announced, Cytech has had interest from a multitude of other countries hoping to offer training, helping to build recognition of Cytech worldwide.

Not only does this mean that Cytech is setting the standard internationally, making it THE qualification of choice for the entire bicycle industry, but it also gives Cytech qualified mechanics the opportunity to use their skills across the globe.

Most recently, Bicycle Industries Australia (BIA) have advertised for Cytech qualified mechanics to take their skills to the other side of the world to work for 12 months, returning to the UK with greater experience and contribution to the growth of the UK bicycle industry. Despite not yet having a Cytech training facilities being run in Australia, Cytech is well recognised, with brand recognition at 50% amongst Australian bike businesses according to a recent BIA survey.  

Cytech mechanics sought for work in Australia

Are you Cytech qualified and have worked as a bike mechanic for more than two years? Use your skills to fill a shortage of bike mechanics to work in Australia and travel the world at the same time.

The BIA will connect you to bicycle retailers looking for seasonal skilled and qualified mechanics in Australia. Under the Australian working holiday Visa criteria, you'll be allowed to work and travel in Australia for up to 12 months. After 12 months working, you'll leave Australia and return to the UK with greater experience and contribute to the growth of the UK bicycle industry.

Key Working Holiday Visa requirements:

  • The individual is under 31
  • Does not have a criminal record
  • Not be travelling with any dependents

Visa details:

  • The Visa is for 12 months
  • Maximum of 6 months with a single employer (can work for two separate employers)

What are the costs:
  • There are no fees charged by the BIA to the UK applicant

All mechanics will be responsible for funding and securing:

  • Their own work Visa - application and details can be found here
    Their own flights

What you'll need to do:

  • Forward a letter of application - including two relevant professional referees (and their contact details)
  • Complete the application form that can be found here

What the BIA will do:

The BIA is not a job placement agency, nor can it provide legal advice.

The BIA will -

  • Assess your application for suitability
  • Contact your referees

If you pass the criteria, we will:

  • Provide you with an access code that will list current job vacancies in Australian bicycle stores (targeting international mechanics).
  • We will direct your application to retailers which are best fit for your skills.
