New Scottish Government Vision on Electric Vehicles

Posted on in Business News, Cycles News

Transportscotland Scotland has published a new vision for electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The vision document announces a new charging fund providing local authorities with up to £60m over the next four years.

Scottish Ministers are committed to tackling climate change and to delivering net zero as set out in the update to the Climate Change Plan. A key part of this will  be encouraging the people of Scotland to make greater use of public transport, cycling and other forms of active travel. And, whilst they want to see an overall reduction in reliance on cars, aligned with their ambition to reduce annual kilometres driven by 20% by 2030, a wholesale shift to zero emission vehicles is also necessary to meet climate change goals.

Transport Scotland estimates that half of the fund will be invested in the private sector and anticipates that the vision can double the size of the public charging network in Scotland.

Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero, Energy and Transport Michael Matheson MSP has also announced £350k to support six pathfinder projects across Scotland.
