Cycling Industry News launches annual Market Study

Posted on in Business News, Cycles News

Cycling Industry News’ sixth annual Market Study has today gone live with independent retailers, workshops and mobile mechanics invited to take part by clicking here.

This annual research effort seeks to understand the trading patterns of the UK bicycle retail sector’s small to medium sized retail businesses. Subjects explored include where and with which brands retailers are investing and divesting, the trends perceived to be taking place in the market, the factors that most weigh on successful business relationships with suppliers, pricing, consumer buying trends and plenty more.

CIN Market Data 2023

A series of incentives are being announced for those who take the ten-minute survey, which it is hoped will become the largest forward-looking study of the UK bike retail market to date.

Ahead of a range of prizes to be revealed in the coming weeks, the first incentive to take part is a free two night stay for two people to be taken on any Sunday to Thursday period at The Mariners Hotel in Lyme Regis on the sunny Dorset coast, valid until December 31st 2023. (Subject to availability and excluding Christmas, Easter and School Holidays)

Launching the 2022 research, Cycling Industry News’ editor Mark Sutton said: “It can fairly be said that the bike industry and all the links feeding into our supply chains are struggling to find a new normal. In what are unprecedented times for businesses, being able to navigate with at least some degree of insight to back up decisions is critical.

“Aside from informing Cycling Industry News’ own editorial direction, our market research seeks to first and foremost give a voice to the frontline retailers in the market and, secondly, give suppliers the tools to understand the relationships to a sharper degree, as well as get clear sight on market trends. I want to thank the many hundred businesses that continually support this work with their collaboration.”

This year’s study is marginally shorter than previous research, instead seeking to deliver a greater level of depth on key subjects currently affecting the marketplace. The full report will be once again delivered in Q1 2023 to those retail businesses completing the study. (Participation is open only to UK-based independent retailers and workshops, businesses that do not qualify will be removed from the final dataset. All data is anonymised and only shared with sponsors if shops opt into the prize draws.)

To find out how you can obtain a licence for Cycling Industry News’ now discounted current year study, or pre-register your company’s interest in the 2023 edition contact the editor or head of sales.

This year’s research is supported by Raleigh UK, Bafang, Hyena eBike Systems, Ison Distribution, Exposure Lights, Moore Large/Forme Bikes, Extra UK and Magura.
