Expansion continues at South Downs Bikes

Posted on in Business News, Cycles News

Expansion continues at South Downs Bikes in Storrington, West Sussex, with the opening of their new Specialized Elite showroom.

Following expansion at their Worthing branch in December 2011, the original Storrington business outgrew the previous location, an old forge, which is now the dedicated service and repair workshop. A big new showroom has taken shape where the old village social club once stood, a huge project in itself, and having both dedicated showroom and workshop within 200 metres of each other has certainly made this a destination store.

The additional space for both the Storrington and Goring branches has given the business the opportunity to really develop into 21st century retailing with spacious, fresh showroom areas and increased workshop space and efficiency.

The ActSmart team were invited to the launch party of the new store and as it is Katie's local bike shop, she went along for a taste of the hog roast and champagne, and to take a few photos! (see below) She was blown away by the number of people who attended - despite the horrific wind and rain on the night. There was an auction to raise money for The Point Foundation, a charity that helps to support and educate orphans in Africa. South Downs Bikes owner, Martin Richardson, and his daughter have spent time in Rwanda working with the charity over the last couple of years. Some interesting lots were snapped up by the keen crowd - including an interesting 1940s vintage bike, used by a midwife to travel around London delivering babies during the war.

Whilst talking to Martin, he expressed how grateful he is to ActSmart for the help and support they provide him with. He said "we are especially grateful for the savings we make on the card processing rates and the shop insurance. Those savings have a significant affect on our overheads. We have also utilised the discounts on Cytech training as we put all our mechanics through Cytech Two and we have recruited some terrific staff through your free jobs board".

Many thanks to Martin and his staff for inviting ActSmart to a great party and for keeping Katie's bikes on the road...
