High Street Retailers are Thriving

Posted on in Business News

Today, we are telling the story of the Crickhowell heroes.

Mike Webb and his two brothers run J and D Webb and Sons, a store that has been around since 1936. Mike Webb talked passionately about the family of shops that make up the Crickhowell High Street.

"Everyone pulls together. When we did a litter pick and clean-up in the high street recently more than 150 people turned out. Our regular customers and our visitors feel that this is a special place."

This year has been challenging for retailers on the UK's high streets with difficult weather conditions, increases in tax and business expenses. But the Crickhowell High Street is in stride, flourishing and moving away from the trend.

Not only have the Crickhowell High Street been crowned the overall winner of the Great British High Street Awards 2018. But, when plans to move a national supermarket came about the town fought back and won.
"We are competitors, but we work together," said the owner of Grenfell's & Sons grocery store.

Crickhowell's High Streets are determined to keep fighting, finding new ways of thriving. For them, this is all down to the passion they hold for their town, their businesses and their community.
